That a grant of £70,000 is made to Stalbridge Town Council towards the extension of the Stalbridge Hub.
Reason for the Decision
The Stalbridge Hub extension project is to enhance the current multi-purpose centre (comprises a community run Library, Community Office, meeting rooms and Town Council Office) by providing a larger multi-use room,
improved catering facilities and smaller rooms which may be used for outreach medical consultations and other support. This extension will also enable a current space in the existing building to be used as a heritage centre space for exhibition and museum archive purposes.
The cost of the project is estimated as £300,000-£350,000, and a grant of £70,000 from the District Council would be a significant part of a funding mix of both Public Works Loan Board loan and external grants that can be secured using this as match funding.
The Council intends, therefore, to award a grant of £70,000 to Stalbridge Town Council for the purposes as set out above.
Alternative options considered and rejected
Not to support this project. It is considered important to support Stalbridge Town Council in this project, and this funding would provide a significant contribution, and also act as match funding for bringing in other funds.
